Three Business Website Design Mistakes To Avoid

Blog

Putting together the perfect website for your business requires an eye for design and user ease. You want a site that draws in visitors and keeps them there long enough to secure them as customers. Knowing the following web design mistakes that will cause you to lose business is vital if you want to build an engaging website.

#1: Not considering all platforms

Your visitors will be using a variety of different devices to access your site, including computers, tablets, and smart phones. Further, they will be accessing it from differing operating systems as well as on different browsers. It's imperative that your site is tested for all of the popular browsers and devices. You should also have a version of your site that is optimized for mobile devices as well as a more in depth desktop version of the site. Depending on your product or service, it may even make sense to have an app made to complement your site for those that prefer to access it from mobile devices.

#2: Adding too much fluff

You will lose users if they have to wait forever for the website to load. Avoid integrating any memory hogs that begin to play instantly, like video or music. These tend to annoy users, whom will often quickly close the site or search for the stop button on the video or music player before continuing. Make sure the site is also tested on multiple computers and through different browsers. You want to make sure the site loads quickly, even on machines that are a couple of years old. This may mean skipping on some of the extra bells and whistles that are resource heavy, or at least giving visitors an option on whether they want to view those resources.

#3: Failing to collect visitor information

At the very least, your website should generate leads. If you don't have a method to capture visitor contact information, such as email addresses, as well as securing permission to email them, you are missing out on potential business. Offer a free newsletter, report, or a special discount for signing up with your site. You don't want to inundate those that join your list with information, but you should send out at least one email per month. This can include useful information or special deals for list members. Tailor the information and the freebie offered to get them to signup to your product so that your visitors get a taste of what it would be like to utilize your business.

Online Marketing for Your Business

Hi. My name is Gerald Jones. Thanks for stopping by my website. I have owned a small retail business for about fifteen years now. I started out with only a physical location, and then a few years later built a website and started selling online. The one thing I have learned is that you have to market your business to be successful. Gone are the days where people find you in the yellow pages of the phone book. Competition is fierce, but it’s not impossible to thrive. Online marketing is probably the most important advertising a business can have. Learning how to market online can be challenging, but if I can do it, anyone can! I’m going to share more about the importance of online marketing and how to get started. Hope you find this information to be of value.
